Guest Historian
Speaks Tonight

A distinguished Canadian historian will
speak on "Metropolitanism, Urbanism, and
Regionalism in Canada, 1867-present," tonight
at 8 in the MacGregor Rare Book Room of
Alderman Library.

Maurice Careless, of the University of
Toronto and former President of the Canadian
Historical Society, is lecturing at a number of
colleges in Virginia under a grant from the WiIl
Donner Foundation, a group which among
other things seeks to promote Canadian studies
in the United States.

Mr. Careless, the author of many books and
articles on Canadian history, has been the
recipient of numerous awards, including the
Canada Centennial Medal in 1967, and has been
a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada since
1962.
