Various local activities leading into
this weekend's March on Washington have
been announced by the Virginia Mobilization
Committee to End the War in
Vietnam.

The two co-chairmen of that group,
Chuck Wheeler and Steve Squire told The
Cavalier Daily yesterday of several events
which have been scheduled.

On Wednesday night, the him "The Battle
of Culloden" will be presented in the South
Meeting Room of Newcomb Hall. With
showings at 6:30, 8:00 and 9:30 the admission
is free.

Also on Wednesday night, Charlottesville
Mayor G.A. Vogt will speak at the Prism Coffee
House in defense of President Nixon's war
policy. Admission is also free for that event
which will take place at 8:15.

Messrs. Wheeler and Squire further announced
that a march and rally will take place
Thursday. Beginning at noon at the Rotunda,
the march will proceed downtown Main Street
via Lane High School. At Court House Square a
rally will be held. The featured speakers will
include Bud Ogle, President of the Student
Council, and a representative of "Chicago
Conspiracy" whose name has not yet been
revealed.

Following the rally, members of the
Mobilization group plan to go to the main post
office to mail a "communal letter" to President
Nixon expressing their concern over his
handling of the Vietnam War.

In addition, members of the group will
attempt to place a long distance telephone call
to Vice President Spiro Agnew urging him to
allow his daughter to participate in the anti-war
demonstrations this weekend.

Finally, on Thursday night at 7, there will
be a meeting of those planning to go to
Washington this weekend, That meeting will be
held in Newcomb Hall's South Meeting Room.

The Mobilization leaders announced that the
second Concert of Protest and Peace scheduled
here for Thursday night has been cancelled
because many of those who were to have taken
part are now planning to depart for Washington
that night.

Meanwhile, in Washington plans for the
demonstrations this weekend continue with the
announcement Monday that at least three
United States Senators will be participating in
the march on Saturday. Sens. Charles Goodell
(R-N.Y.), Eugene McCarthy (D-Minn.) and
George McGovern (D-S.D.) have agreed to take
part in the march on Saturday. In addition,
Mrs. Martin Luther King, Jr. will address the
main rally on Saturday.

These developments are viewed by many as
a hopeful sign that the demonstrations may not
erupt into violence as some including spokesmen
for the Department of Justice, have been
predicting.

Already, three buses have been booked to
carry University students to the nations capital
in a transportation program sponsored by the
Virginia Mobilization Committee.

Tickets for the one-day excursion are still on
sale at Newcomb Hall Main Desk at $5 per
person. Earlier it has been announced that there
would be no further ticket sales after Friday,
Nov. 7.
