Elected To Head CD Staff

Richard B. Gwathmey, Jr. was
elected editor-in-chief of The
Cavalier Daily in staff elections
held just before spring break.
Charles L. Woody and Howard
E. Gordon were elected managing
editor and business manager,
respectively. All are third-year
men in the College.

Dan K. Shipp, outgoing
managing editor, was voted the
Henry Noble Taylor award,
which is presented annually by
the Seven to "that member of the
staff who" in the opinion of the
staff "best exemplifies the traditions
and ideals of the University
of Virginia."

The award is given in memory
of Mr. Taylor, editor-in-chief for
the session 1949-50, who was
killed as a news correspondent
in the Congo in 1960.

Retiring editor-in-chief Charles
C. Calhoun was voted the Chase
Stuart Wheatley, III, Memorial
award, given to the staff member
"who has best demonstrated
outstanding service to the University
through this newspaper."

In other elections second-year
men Rod MacDonald, Paul Larsen,
and Bob Cullen and Ted
McKean were chosen news editor,
features editor, and co-sports
editors, respectively. Third-year
man Anson Franklin was elected
wire editor.

In the business department Roy
Bishop and Bruce Wine, both
second-year men, were chosen
national advertising and advertising
managers, respectively, and
third-year man Nick Acheson
was elected circulation manager.

Second-year men Mike Glidewell
and Bob Gill will serve as
co-supervisors of photography.

Second-year man Stefan Lopatkiewicz
and first-year men Tom
Adams, Thom Fauders, and Jay
Steer will be the new city editors,
and first-year men Rick Brownfield
and Brewster Mosely will
serve as associate features editors.

In addition to these students,
five more may be appointed as
staff writers any time by the
managing board members.

The new staff takes over the
paper effective this issue.
