Nominations For College Offices

Societies Caucus Tonight

Candidates for college offices
square off at 8 p.m. in the two
political societies in attempts to
secure the nominations for the
three available posts of President,
Vice-President, and Secretary.

Also to be considered are proposed
changes in the constitution
of the societies that will enable
independents to gain more numbers
with less difficulty.

Both Skull & Keys, which
meets in Gilmer Hall, and Sceptre
Society, which meets in the
new chemistry building auditorium,
have agreed to do away with
the post of Historian, feeling the
post has been one of little value.
The final decision on abolishing
the post will rest with Dean of
the College Irby B. Cauthen.

Concerning the easing of requirements
for independent members
three changes were proposed,
and each may be adopted by a
majority vote.

The first amendment states that
"anyone not represented by an
organization or social fraternity
shall have one vote. The total
number of independents shall be
determined by their percentage
in the College. The changes also
remove the suite-membership requirement
and $2 dues, making
any individual eligible if he pays
a $1 fee.
