Committee Adopts
Procedure Change
In Weekly Format

By Thom Faulders
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

With little more than the
needed quorum, the First-year
Committee heard several motions
and changed the general format
of their weekly meetings last
Tuesday night.

Chairman Dan Lyons suggested
that the general meetings
be held every other week starting
March 5.

Executive meetings consisting
of the subcommittee chairmen
and the officers will be held during
the alternating week in an
effort to initiate and facilitate
operations. Mr. Lyons added that
all meetings were open and any
first-year men could attend.

A questionnaire is scheduled to
come out to all first-year men
some time next week. The purpose
is to get the general backing
of the first-year class on certain
issues such as the quality of food
from Food Services and the dissatisfaction
with the vending machines.

Arnold Goldin, Vice Chairman,
reported that he was approached
by Chester Titus, Director
of Housing, who explained
that the extermination of cockroaches
is difficult because they
usually lay eggs before they can
be eliminated. But he was quick
to add that the Housing Office
was glad to help whenever it
could.

John Holman, who is in charge
of the first-year directory for next
year, stated that the aim for the
project was put in as many pictures
as possible for the least
amount of money. The information
material will be sent out
with the acceptance letters from
the Office of Admissions. Special
letters will be sent to early acceptances.
It has not yet been decided
how the directories will be
distributed.

Bill Noon urged first-year support
for the Project Opportunity
book drive while Jim Brashares,
Student Council Advisor, suggested
that all independent first-year
men take advantage of second
semester rush.

The meeting ended with Dan
Walker, representative from third
floor Echols, commenting on the
lack of enthusiasm and suggesting
that more first-year men attend
Student Council meetings
and that the First-year Committee
should sponsor bus rolls to
the neighboring colleges.
