Intake Hearing Appraises
Case Against Greenfield

By JOHN EPPS

An intake hearing was
held yesterday afternoon
between City Commonwealth
Attorney John T. Camblos
and Juvenile Court Judge
Ralph Zaler to appraise the
Juvenile Court of the State's
case against 17-year-old Robert
W. Greenfield.

Mr. Greenfield was arrested
Wednesday in Richmond and
charged with the murder of
University fourth-year student
Mary F. Jordan.

Closed Hearing

The hearing was not open
to the public. A detention
hearing is expected to take
place today in Juvenile Court.

Mr. Greenfield is still being
held in jail and no bail has been
set, according to Mr. Camblos.

Mr. Camblos also said that
several weapons have been
found, any of which could be
the one used in the slaying of
Miss Fields.

Arrested Wednesday

Mr. Greenfield was arrested
Wednesday night after a truck
driver reported giving a ride to
a hitchhiker who fit the
suspect's description.

The driver told police he
gave Mr. Greenfield a ride to
the Bensley-Bermuda Rescue
Squad in Chesterfield County,
where Mr. Greenfield was
advised to go to a hospital for
treatment of his severely cut
fingers.

Mr. Greenfield refused to
be transported to the Hospital
but was later arrested at St.
Luke's Hospital by Richmond
police, working in close
contact with the Charlottesville
Police Department.

Mr. Greenfield's father
arrived in Charlottesville late
last night from his home in
Brewster, New York.

Miss Jordan was stabbed at
12:45 a.m. last Wednesday.
Her body was found in the
parking lot at Westminister
Presbyterian Church on Rugby
Road.

She was rushed to
University Hospital but was
declared dead at 2:55 a.m.
after an unsuccessful operation
to save her life.

No motive has yet been
given for the slaying, and
police say they have found no
evidence that alcohol or any
other drug was involved.
