Council Approves
New Funding Plan

By SAM BARNES

In order to simplify future
funding procedures, Student
Council will categorize student
organizations according to a
plan unanimously approved by
Council Tuesday night.

The plan divides all student
groups requesting student
activity funds into eight
categories and places a celling
on total allocations to each of
these divisions.

Each category will be
evaluated individually,
according to Vice President
Larry Sabato, who proposed
the plan. Organizations will
receive their "just need," he
said, with percentage cutbacks
on all organizations in the
category should total
allocations exceed the
predetermined ceiling.

Categories and funding
ceilings set by Council for
spring allocations include:
academic and speaker-oriented
groups ($13,800), Councils
($5,300), equal opportunity
groups ($7,800), music groups
($4,450), publications and
radio stations ($24,700),
community service groups
($34,500), interest-oriented
groups ($9,900) and club
sports ($20,010).

The ceilings were
determined according to
allocations from the last three
years, and will be subject to
adjustment in spring
allocation hearings.

They may also be
reevaluated after Council
obtains the results of an
upcoming opinion poll on the
Student Activities Fund.

Mr. Sabato said that under
the new procedure Council will
consider funding for most
organizations in the spring
hearings and eliminate most of
the fall funding hearings.

In other action, Council
elected Education School
representative Lee Storey
secretary and College
representative Sam Brown
treasurer for second semester.

Council also approved
President Jim Rinaca's
committee chairmen
appointments.

Students appointed
committee chairmen are Greg
Luce and TomWilson, Athletic
and Academic Affairs; Sally
Kauffman and Jim Curry,
Human Relations; Paul
Freeman and James Wallace,
Elections; Sam Brown and
Sherri Smith, Communications;
Paul Dipasquale, Off-Grounds
Housing; and Taylor Putney,
Food Services.
