Announce
Tuition Climb
By BARBARA HAND
Next year's tuition will be increased
$50 per nine-month session for in-state
undergraduate students and $150 per
session for out-of-state students,
announced the University's Board of
Visitors Friday.
The new general tuition raises, the first
at the University in two years, are needed
to help offset legislative cuts in the
University's 1972-74 budget, according to
a University press release.
The tuition of undergraduate students
in the College of Arts and Sciences, the
schools of Commerce, Nursing and
Education will increase from $365 per
session to $415 for the 1972-73 session.
Costs will rise another $25 to a total
charge of $440 per nine-month session
for the 1973-74 session.
For out-of-state students, the current
charge of $1,040 per session will go from
$150 to $1,190 for the 1972-73 session
and raised another $75 to $1,265 for
1973-74.
In accordance with other changes
approved by the Board, room rates for
single students will jump by $25 per
nine-month session beginning September
1.
The comprehensive fee charged all
students will be raised $5 from the
current charge of $165. The increase is
needed for rising costs of the student
health service.
Tuition charges for the Graduate
School of Arts and Sciences and for
graduate students in architecture,
engineering and education will increase
next fall from $365 to $415 per session
for in-state students. Returning students
will pay an additional $25 the following
year.
For returning out-of-state graduate
students tuition will grow from the
current $875 to $1,025 next fall and to
$1,000 the following year.
In-state graduate students entering
these schools for 1972-1973 will pay
$450 and $475 the next year. New
graduate students in 1973-74 will pay
$500.
Tuition will be $1,100 for new
out-of-state graduate students next year
and $1,175 the following year. First-year
graduate students in 1973-74 will pay
$1,265.
Students in the Law School and the
Graduate School of Business
Administration will have similar increases
in tuition.
The Medical School tuition will rise
$100 to $800 next fall for in-state
students. Out-of-state students will pay
$1,850, an increase of $250.
