Survey Shows Rise
In Black Enrollment

A survey released by the University
November 18 showed that 334 Black
students are enrolled in classes at the
University this fall, an increase over
previous Black enrollment.

The total enrollment of the University
this fall is 12,351 students. Black
students account for 2.7 per cent of this
total.

One hundred ninety-seven of the 334
Black students at the University are
studying on the undergraduate level.
There are 156 Black students in the
College of Arts and Sciences, which has a
total enrollment of 5,472. There are 28
Black students in the School of
Engineering and Applied Sciences.

The number of Black students
working at the graduate and professional
level is 127.

Seventy-three of the Black students at
the graduate and professional level are
enrolled in the School of Education. The
total enrollment of the Education School
is 1,259.

The School of Law has an enrollment
of 951 students, 25 of whom are Black.
There are 24 Black students in the
Graduate School of Arts and Sciences,
and seven Black students in the School of
Medicine.

There are 98 more Black students
enrolled at the University this fall than
were enrolled last year.

In 1967 there were 71 Black students
attending the University. Nineteen of the
71 Black students were undergraduates.

In 1968 the number of Black students
attending classes at the University
increased to 87. In 1969 the number of
Black students grew to 134 and last year
there were 236 Black students enrolled at
the University.
