Film Center
Opens Tonite

The Film Production Union will
sponsor an exhibition of student work in
8 mm and Super 8 film tonight at 8. Any
members of the University community
with films are invited to bring them for
the screening, and all interested persons
are welcome at the showing.

The exhibition will take place at the
Union's new 8 mm film center located at
165c Madison Lane. It is emphasized that
the showing is completely unstructured,
and that anybody who shows up with
film will be screened.

Starting next week, the 8 mm film
center will be open Monday nights at
7:30 for those interested in 8 mm film
production to get together and rap, plan, or
whatever. A dual-8 projector and dual-8
editor/viewer will be available at the center, and
information about cameras will also be
available.

The Film Production Union has also
purchased a 16 mm camera for the use of any
Union member. Membership in the Union is
open to all members of the University
community. Information regarding use of the
camera and other equipment will also be
available at the film center or at any Union
meeting.

Future plans of the Film Production Union
are in two areas: actual production of film, and
presenting film shows for the community.
Several film projects are currently underway by
Union members, but there is room for many
more.

Many organizations have said they will pay
for the supplies needed in order to make a film
about their particular interest; the Union will
supply the equipment and energy to make the
film. In other words, students interested in
filmmaking have an opportunity to provide
community service at the same time they are
learning the craft.

In the area of film showings, the Union has
been investigating the possibility of showing
films in the Amphitheater. From a number of
sources it has been understood that there can
be no more outdoor rock concerts in the
central grounds area, as the noise disturbs
residents of the area. It is hoped that such
outdoor film showings might make up for the
loss of the very pleasant happenings which took
place last spring.

Also, at a recent meeting the Union elected
the following officers: President, Chris Dickey;
Vice President, Mike Lereah; Treasurer, Mike
Hauty; and Secretary, Chris Purcell.
