Students Seek
Council Seats

By Brian Siegel
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Vacancies on Student Council and the
Judiciary Committee will be filled from
the candidates running for election in the
races today and tomorrow.

Coming before students in this election
are three proposed constitutions and
a referendum on the Honor System.
While voting for one's candidates, students
can vote on the other issues
applying to his school - a new Student
Council Constitution, Graduate Arts and
Sciences constitution, College Council
constitution, and an Honor System
referendum.

The new College Council constitution
will establish a College Council to deal
with issues affecting only students in the
College. If the constitution is approved,
the Council will include five representatives
from each class as well as the representatives to
the Student Council.

College Candidates

In the College four positions are open on
Student Council. Competing for these positions
are Quinn Spitzer, Tom Brown, Henry Bowden,
and Bill Hurd from the Jefferson Party; Ken
Lewis, Kevin Mannix, Tony Sherman, and
Buzzy Waltzkin are candidates from the
Virginia Progressive Party; Donald Trease and
Michael Capobianco are running from the
Liquifactionist Party; Bruce Tyler represents
the Young Americans for Freedom; Eric Royce
heads the Independent-Libertarian Action ticket;
and Clyde Ellis and Camby Robinson are
the Yippie candidates.

The Student Council post from the School
of Law is being fought for by Tom Gudgeon,
Elizabeth Medaglia, Arden Schell, and Denis
Soden.

The School of Architecture will chose who
will represent them on Student Council from
Philip Lever, Jim Morris, and Mike Smith.

Student Council candidates from the School
of Engineering are Joe Laughton (Theta Tau),
Bill Fox (Trigon), Bill Keene (Yippie), and
Harry Steeper (Independent).

Graduate Candidates

Tom Biggar, Pedro Saavedra, and Judy
Wellman are candidates for Student Council
from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Students of the Medical School will select
either Phil Catron or Sam Robinson as their
representative to Student Council.

In the elections for Judiciary Committee the
Virginia Progressive Party is running Steve
Baskin, Jim Basl, and Bob White for the College
positions. The Jefferson Party is running Ted
Foote, Zeb Inge, and Pete Ricciardelli.

From the Law School the Judiciary
Committee candidates are Rick Boucher and
Tom Boyd.

The School of Architecture has Paul Clarke
and John Cole competing for the Judiciary
position.

David Houseman (Trigon) and Barry Edwards
(Theta Tau) are vying for the Judiciary
seat in the School of Engineering.

Hugh Baugher is the only Judiciary candidate
from the Medical School and no one
signed up to run from the graduate school.

Polling places are located all over the
Grounds and will be open today and tomorrow
only.
