At IFC Meeting

MacDonald, Buck
Chosen To Board

By Thom Faulders
Cavalier Daily Staff Writer

Two new members, Rod
MacDonald and Bill Buck, were
elected last night to the Governing
Board of the Inter-Fraternity Council
for a year term.

The Governing Board, consisting
of four elected members, the four
IFC officers, and the student
representatives of the Committee
on Fraternities, acts not only as the
disciplinary body of the IFC, but also
initiates many of the activities of
the fraternity group.

Mr. MacDonald, who captured
25 votes in the second balloting to
lead the voting, felt that as the
independence of the IFC grew away
from administration control, the
responsibilities of the Governing
Board would grow proportionally.
He also noted that there was a
problem with communications between
the Governing Board and the
various fraternities on the
Grounds.

"Everchanging And Vital"

The past chairman of the
Housing Committee, Bill Buck, explained
the role of the IFC as an
"ever changing and vital element in
the future of fraternities" and
added that it was the purpose of
the Governing Board to lead the
IFC.

Sam Garvin was dropped from
the second balloting after narrowly
defeating Henry Doggrell by one
vote in the first balloting.

In other business, President Ed
Hayes announced that for Midwinters
Weekend, on a trail basis,
doormen for the fraternity houses
for Friday and Saturday nights will
be supplied by the Link Security
Agency at a cost of $24.50 per
night. They will be uniformed and
constantly checked by two supervisors
during their five hour
working time. The extra hour, Mr.
Hayes felt, would increase protection
to fraternities and the students
and dates.

Gaining Admission

A student may gain admission
to the parties during the upcoming
weekend by either presenting a
University identification card,
appearing on a list of guests that
will be in the doorman's possession,
or having a brother of the house
vouch for the student. Any house
may elaborate on these rules if so
desired, and the service is not provided
for Sunday afternoon parties.

Mr. Hayes explained that if a
house liked a particular doorman
who has served the house in the
past, the social chairman of that
house should contact Tom Link at
the WCHV radio station to affiliate
this doorman with the agency.
