3-3-3 Committee
Alters Format,
Becomes 4-2-3

In response to the IFC's
unanimous backing of a proposed
change of the 3-3-3 Committee to a
5-2-2 Committee, the 3-3-3
Committee voted last week to
reconstitute itself as a 4-2-3
Committee.

The proposed reorganization of
the Committee will take place after
the approval of President Edgar F.
Shannon and the Board of Visitors.

New Composition

Presently composed of three
students, three faculty members,
and three administration members,
the new committee would contain
four student representatives, two
faculty members, and three
administrators, one of which would
be a non-voting chairman.

If the proposal is approved, the
Committee will be the first of its
kind to have equivalent student
representation with a four versus
four alignment.

Crossing Lines

One student representative
asserted, however, that even though
at present the
student-faculty-administrator ratio
is even at three apiece, voting
always crosses those line. For
example, he noted, in the vote for
the reconstitution of the
Committee, all three students
favored the motion, two faculty
members of the three approved,
and the remaining three did not
favor the reorganization.

Mr. Hayes said in last Monday
Night's IFC meeting that the 5-2-3
Committee was a great step
forward. "No longer will the IFC
just make suggestions to the
Committee, but we will be on an
equal basis with the faculty and
administration representatives," he
added.

Dirty Rush

Responding to a report from a
first-year man concerning "dirty
rush," the Interfraternity Council's
Rush Board investigated Zeta Beta
Tau fraternity.

ZBT was accused of having
illegal parties after the regular rush
smokers on the Friday and
Saturday nights of the weekend of
October 4. Rides were also given to
rushees during that time period.

ZBT Fined

The fraternity was found guilty
and fined $200 and they lost the
rushing privileges for lunch, game
and concert of the November 2
weekend. The house will be
permitted to hold parties that
Saturday night.

One rush Board member
commented, "I urge all houses to
reconsider in the contemplation of
dirty rush. There are many
first-year men who are turning
houses in to the Rush Board."

Ed Hayes, president of the IFC,
added, "This makes clear our stand
on illegal rush and it would be to
each house's advantage to
discourage it among members."

In other business at the IFC
Meeting, there was a motion to
abolish house hostesses at parties. It
was reasoned that if doormen were
required, there was no real need for
the hostesses. The motion passed
and will go on to the 3-3-3
Committee.

The Rush Board Clarified its
procedures on the investigation at
the meeting. No anonymous reports
will be accepted by the Board. If a
house is charged with a rushing
violation, the president of the
house must submit a written reply
before the night of the trial. The
spokesman for the Board added
"the first-year men have been very
cooperative in reporting violations
and the fines have been stiff."

Other rushing practices were
discussed concerning the passing
of the names of good rushees to
other houses. If a rushee is not
compatible with one or two
members of one particular house,
that house should contact another
house and explain the situation and
give the house the name of the
rushee involved. In this way a boy
who wants to be in a fraternity will
have a better chance than before.
