University Union Plans
Mini-Concert Series

By GEORGE LYON

The University Union is
planning a series of
mini-concerts for this year
which are designed to fill the
gaps so "people won't have to
wait for big weekends to have
concerts," according to
University Union Tri-chairman
Cary Deeley.

Josh White To Perform

Popular and Blues singer
Josh White will perform at the
mini-concert Nov. 29th. 8
p.m., in Cabell Hall
Auditorium. Tickets are $2 in
advance and $2.50 at the door.

The mini-concerts will be
held in Cabell Hall. This makes
for a more intimate audience
than is possible in University
Hall, Mr. Deely said, and the
concerts in Cabell Hall are less
expensive.

Mr. Deely said the Union
plans to hold three or four
concerts this year. He
explained that the idea is to sell
the University community on
the concerts and then, next
year, to make it a series and
sell season tickets.

Events scheduled by the
Union for December include
the psychiatrist and author
Ronald David Liang speaking
on "Beyond Freud" on Dec. 1,
and 88 Keys Wilson and the
University of Virginia Jazz
Ensemble will play on Dec. 3
in Cabell Hall Auditorium.

Dellums To Speak

Congressman Ronald
Dellums (D–Calif.) will speak
on "Coalition Politics" on Dec.
4, and on Dec. 8 Chuck Berry
and John Lennon's current
band, Elephant's Memory will
perform in concert at
University Hall at 8 p.m.

Tickets for the concert will
go on sale two weeks in
advance. The first week, only
students will be allowed to buy
tickets.

On Dec. 12, the University
Union's Black Culture
Committee will show a three
hour documentary film on the
late Dr. Martin Luther King.
Cornelius Brother and Sister
Rose and the Divots will be
here for the Second Annual
Soul Bowl on Dec. 13 in
Memorial Gym.

Movie Night

Among the movies featured
in the Union's December film
series will be "Little Big Man"
starring Dustin Hoffman and
Faye Dunnaway, and "The
Stranger" with Orson Wells,
Edward G. Robinson, and
Loretta Young.
