4402. LAND TAX, Proposed.—[further continued] .
The land tax was yesterday [
May 30] debated, and a majority of six
struck out the 13th section of the classification
of houses, and taxing them by a different scale
from the lands. Instead of this, is to be proposed
a valuation of the houses and lands together.—
To James Madison. Washington ed. iv, 244.
