3835. IMMIGRANTS, Irish and German.—

By the close of 1785, there had probably
passed over 50,000 emigrants. Most of
these were Irish. The greatest number of the
residue were Germans. Philadelphia received
most of them, and next to that Baltimore and
New York.—
