3130. FRANCE, The Consulate.—
They
have established Bonaparte, Sieyès, and Duc
ós into an executive, or rather Dictatorial
Consulate, [and] given them a committee of
between twenty and thirty from each council.
Thus the Constitution of the Third year,
which was getting consistency and firmness
from time, is demolished in an instant, and
nothing is said about a new one. How the
nation will bear it is yet unknown.—
To John Breckenridge.
