2131. DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, Where written.—

The Declaration
of Independence was written in a house
on the north side of Chestnut Street, Philadelphia,
between Third and Fourth, not a corner
house. Heiskell's tavern, which has been
pointed out as the house, is not the true one.—
From Daniel Webster's Conversation with Jefferson. Ford ed., x, 327.
