The Lord of the Forest and his Vassals
An Allegory [by C. F. Humphreys]
Alexander, Cecil Frances (1818-1895)
Dedication.
THE LORD OF THE FOREST AND HIS VASSALS.
[Through the forest-branches brightly]
[Trust not ye, that hope has found ye]
[O! gentle child, the heavenward path is fair]
[Child, whom Christian rite has blest]
[Child, in Christ's own cleansing tide]
[Thou that bearest on Thine arm]
[In the name of the Child Jesus]
[From the wild world's vanities]
[He Who won the Christian's grace]
[Pride, and pomp, and vain delight]
[Round thy Father's dwelling low]
[On the many-tinted fruit]
[When the bright temptation lies]
[Beyond the sunset's golden gates]
[Faithful found in trial's hour]
