の温泉宿から穗高山へ登らうとしました。穗高山へ登るのには御承知の通り梓川を溯
る外はありません。僕は前に穗高山は勿論、槍ケ岳にも登つてゐましたから、朝霧の
下りた梓川の谷を案内者もつれずに登つて行きました。朝霧の下りた梓川の谷を――
しかしその霧はいつまでたつても晴れる景色は見えません。のみならず反つて深くな
るのです。僕は一時間ばかり歩いた後、一度は上高地の温泉宿へ引き返すことにしよ
うかと思ひました。けれども上高地へ引き返すにしても、兎に角霧の晴れるのを待つ
た上にしなければなりません。と云つて霧は一刻毎にずんずん深くなるばかりなので
す。「ええ、一そ登つてしまへ。」――僕はかう考へましたから、梓川の谷を離れな
